Last night, you didn’t see anyone, ANYONE, outside in the courtyards of the apartments. Everyone’s lights were on in their apartments, doing whatever they do. Partying, playing video games, browsing youtube, watching tv. And then around midnight, there was a power outage East of the freeway (Where UNM/Lobo Village, the other half of town is). And once that happened, EVERYONE emerged out of their rooms and hung out in the courtyard, trying to find out what was going on, mingling with other people, making jokes, making fun of the drunk people that couldn’t handle their alcohol walking around and stumbling.
All it took was for electricity to be unable for a short amount of time for people to mingle with each other, to go out of their comfort zone and meet other people they didn’t know originally.
Just think how many more friends and life experiences you would actually have if electricity wasn’t so readily available.
Stressful and overwhelming day moving and unpacking, but once that was finished, it was a pretty good day. Had some free Rudy’s BBQ for dinner which was provided through the Ville and had a pool party with DJ. Pool party was lame though so I ended up going back to the apartment with Meagan :) We were getting ready for bed (Meagan did), but then my neighbors (who I literally just met) came over to borrow ice. Then they invited me over for tacos. :) Margo I think her name was, I don’t remember the other one lol. Opps.
Although I was excited for tacos! Right when I walked in they were like “Oh, and Margaritas.” So overall, good night. We weren’t wasted at all, just nicely drinking. Then I later went over to hang out with Will, Larry, and Ryan in their apartment.
So overall, my first night included: feeling overwhelmed and stressed, relaxed, pico de gallo, margaritas, tacos/burritos, and having fun with the guys while they got high lol.
I can’t wait to see what the rest of my stay here will include :)
I still say “hella” while I’m residing in Southern California, and I say it frequently too. To remind myself that it’s the one thing from Norcal that is still with me.
I hella don’t care if you hella don’t like that word.
